FIDA was formed to implement an Australian Rules football program for people with mild to medium intellectual disabilities and was been successfully run since the early 90's.
FIDA's main aim was to provide access to football for anyone in Victoria with an intellectual disability.
In 2017, the running of the competition was passed over to AFL Victoria and the VFFL competition was formed. FIDA is still operational to provide support to clubs within the competition and to ensure the competition is operated for the best interests of participants.
