WELCOME:

Since 1992, the Ringwood Spiders Football Club (formerly the Ringwood Blues) has provided Australian Rules football opportunities for people with a mild to medium intellectual disability within the City of Maroondah and surrounding areas of outer eastern Melbourne. Our club has a strong position and history and has forged a long term relationship with the Maroondah City Council and other key local recreation and disability organisations.

Ringwood Spiders compete in the FIDA Football League. FIDA was formed to implement an Australian Rules football program for people (both men and women) with mild to medium intellectual disabilities and has been successfully run since the early 90's.

In 2013, we changed our name to 'Ringwood Spiders All-Abilities Sports Club'. This change was implemented to better reflect who we are and what we do, as we are much more than just a footy club.

Ringwood Spiders is committed to gender equity and to ensuring women and men enjoy equal opportunities to participate in our sport and club activities in an environment that is welcoming, supportive and safe.

Our Junior development squad provides opportunities for younger boys and girls to join in and have a kick of the footy, and our off season recreation program brings many different activities to our players.

We began a netball program several years ago that provided opportunities for girls as well as boys. This program has grown to now become a stand-alone netball competition.

Ringwood Spiders is run by volunteers with the support of Maroondah City Council and sponsors, both corporate and individual.

Enjoy browsing this website to discover what it is to be part of Ringwood Spiders as we continue on our mission:

'To provide and promote active participation in community sport and social activities for people with a disability', and
'To provide people with a disability an opportunity to interact, participate and build social skills and leadership within the community'.

VALE, FRANK SULLIVAN:

Frank Sullivan
We are saddened by the passing of Spiders founder, Frank Sullivan.

Frank has left many legacies, none more-so than the Spiders. He was instrumental in pretty much single-handedly establishing our club in 1992 and ran it until 2005 when a formal committee was formed. He stayed on as an active committee member until 2015 and was involved for many years after that.

The number of people's lives that have been positively impacted by his passion for supporting those less fortunate through the club and beyond is reflection of the caring and devoted person he was.

Frank loved nothing more than remembering the early days. He would get a glint in his eye as he shared the stories of the club, and stories of the people.

Without his hours of work and dedication to the club and everyone that has passed through it, we would not have the great club that we do today.

Our History page describes Frank's involvement in the establishment of the club and some anecdotes from the early days. Click Here

He will be missed.
